Talk by Fazil Kawani of Refugee Council

Fazil Kawani will talk about the 1951 Refugee Convention and how this Convention is relevant in terms of human rights abuses. He will also talk about the asylum system and the experience of asylum seekers in the UK. Fazil Kawani is a Kurd born in Arbil, Iraq. He arrived in the UK as a refugee in 1980 when he was 18 years old. He qualified as a Civil Engineer, but since 1992 he has been working with refugees and asylum seekers in the UK and has many years experience working on asylum and immigration issues. The Central Building is situated on Claremont Street in the centre of Shrewsbury by the Pay & Display Car Park.
