Amnesty Regional Conference
I found the regional conference very useful to find out more about Amnesty's activities and to meet like-minded people. There were talks and discussions about current campaigns: on violence against women and on asylum seekers. Speakers were from Amnesty itself and from other organisations. There was a march just after lunch into the busy shopping area of Birmingham, to campaign against violence to women. In smaller groups there were workshops with a choice of three topics. Local Groups in the region and individuals too had a chance to say what they had been doing and to share good ideas. We also discussed the question of Amnesty's policy on reproductive rights on which all members are currently being invited to comment.
In December 2006 and Jan. 2007 there are similar conferences in Leeds, Sussex and Aylesbury.
Our blogs are written by Amnesty International staff, volunteers and other interested individuals, to encourage debate around human rights issues. They do not necessarily represent the views of Amnesty International.
