Unreported World in Nigeria - Child Brides

Tonight's Unreported World on Channel Four, Nigeria: Child Brides, Stolen Lives, showed some of the dreadful consequences of girls marrying and becoming pregnant when too young. 

Unreported World takes us to places around the world and we meet victims but also the people in the country (Nigeria in tonight's programme) who are working to improve the situation.  In northern Nigeria most of the states do not accept the national law on the age of marriage and it seems that in Islam it is very much accepted for girls to marry young.  A cleric who was interviewed (and was described as a moderate) was adamant that a man should be able to marry a young girl but he was concerned to prevent girls becoming pregnant at a young age.
