Roma rights now: 93,000 thank yous
Over the past few months Amnesty groups all around Europe have been gathering signatures, calling on the EU to intervene where governments are breaching anti-dscirmination laws by abusing Romani people's rights. Many thousand of you signed our online petition.
In Italy, in France, in Serbia, in Hungary and in Romania, Roma are discriminated against in all areas of life – their rights to adequate housing, education, access to water, sanitation and police protection are severely restricted. These policies and practices are already illegal - the EU just needs to enforce its anti-discrimination laws.
Last week, our colleagues in our EU office handed in nearly 100,000 petition signatures to the EU Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, Viviane Reding, asking for just that.
Watch the video above for a thank you from many of the people we've been campaigning with. Thank you for taking action.
Our blogs are written by Amnesty International staff, volunteers and other interested individuals, to encourage debate around human rights issues. They do not necessarily represent the views of Amnesty International.
