From Lands Ends to John O' Groats - MPs unite for a bullet proof Arms Trade Treaty

Uniting for an Arms Trade Treaty - because of your emails and letters MPs around the UK are writing to David Cameron urging him to publically support for a robust arms trade treaty that protects human rights and saves lives.

In May we sent a call out for people to get involved in what could be one of the greatest human rights breakthroughs in history.

We asked you to help secure a robust and effective arms trade treaty that keeps weapons out of the hands of dictators, warlords and child soldiers.

Amazing response - but we're not there yet

Since then nearly 5000 of you have written to or met your MP calling on them to be an Arms Trade Treaty champion by urging David Cameron to make a strong public statement that the UK will not compromise on human rights during treaty negotiations in July.

Because of you an incredible 636 MPs out of a possible 650 were reached. And guess what? On the eve of negotiations David Cameron made a statement he said: '[We] want to see a Treaty that contains strong provisions on human rights, international humanitarian law and sustainable development'. Read David Cameron's full statement

This is great news but lots of governments are not so supportive and we need to stay alert, ready to act throughout the negotiations. To help keep up the pressure like the Control Arms facebook page today
