Today in 1989: Wide Cass Strike in Universities After Students' Kneeling Petition Was Ignored
Security cordoned off the east entrance to the Great Hall, but several student representatives pressed forward. Three of these students knelt on the steps of the Great Hall to present a petition and demanded to see Premier Li Peng. However, no leaders emerged from the Great Hall, leaving the students disappointed and angry. Almost all universities in Beijing started to boycott since that day.
