Horrifying attacks in Somalia's crisis
The cyclone in Burma is certainly dominating the news agenda today, and considering more than 22,000 people are feared dead as a result, it’s little wonder.
In parts of Somalia the situation for thousands of people is pretty horrific as well. Today Amnesty launched a shocking new report on attacks against Somali people. Dozens of witnesses of the conflict told Amnesty about how people were being brutally killed, and tortured at the moment.
The report details some dreadful accounts. One woman told Amnesty that Ethiopian troops had raped her neighbour’s 17-year-old daughter. When the young woman’s younger brothers tried to protect her, soldiers beat them and gouged out their eyes with a bayonet.
Do have a read of the report if you have a chance.
Amnesty will carry on monitoring the situation unfolding in Somalia, and keep you posted.
‘Til the next time.
