A New Human Rights Bill for Scotland - Amnesty's consultation response

On October 5^th the Scottish Government’s consultation on a new Human Rights Bill for Scotland closed. Amnesty Scotland welcomes the proposals to strengthen the human rights framework and we have responded to the consultation. For ease, we have provided an executive summary of the proposals and our analysis below. We have welcomed the Scottish Government's plans to incorporate four international human rights treaties and additional environmental rights protections into Scots law, but have warned that in places they fall short of the transformative approach that we think can be achieved within devolved powers.

The next step in the process will be a government analysis of all the responses to its public consultation before a draft Bill is introduced next year.
