"Dawn", Documentary screening of Afghan Women
To celebrate National Refugee Week 2013 Refugee Action Kingston and the British Afghan Women’s Society are pleased to invite you to an exclusive film screening of ‘DAWN: Documenting Afghan Women’s Narratives’ at the Rose Theatre Kingston Café, Monday 17th June, 4pm-6pm.
This documentary presents the life stories of Afghan women living in the UK. Their stories were collected as part of the DAWN project, the first oral history project ever to record the unique experiences of Afghan women who have settled in the UK over the last 40 years. The interviews explore the women's lives in Afghanistan, their experiences of migration and life here in the UK. This project aims to combat the often negative stereotypes of Afghan women portrayed in the media.
This film was produced and directed by one of our volunteers Anne O’Connell who will be at the event.
