FAQs: The UK's biggest family photo album

What is the UK's biggest family photo album?

We want to create the UK’s biggest collection of real family photos to show the Home Secretary Sajid Javid that the UK public believes in keeping families together. We plan to display all the photos in a giant album at Parliament in October.

What is refugee family reunion?

Current UK laws governing the rights of refugees are restrictive and unfair. They deny child refugees the right to bring their parents to the UK and mean that parents have to leave behind their children even if they have only just turned 18. It also means elderly parents are also left behind in war-torn countries to fend for themselves.

With your help, we're calling for the following changes to the current rules:

  • Allow child refugees in the UK the right to sponsor their close family, so they can rebuild their lives together and help them integrate in their new community
  • Expand who qualifies as family, so that young people who have turned 18 and elderly parents can join their family in the UK
  • Reintroduce legal aid for refugee family reunion cases, so people who have lost everything have the support they need to afford and navigate the complicated process of being reunited with their families.

Where will my photos be shown?

By uploading your photo, you agree for us to print your photo and display it publicly as part of the giant album. We’re hoping to collect lots of photos to make this the biggest family album in the UK, but we can’t guarantee that your photo or message will definitely appear as there may be practical constraints, such as poor photo resolution, which mean that we’re unable to feature your image. We won’t share your photo with third parties.

It will also be added to an online digital version of the photo album which will stay up for 30 days. After that, your photo will be removed from our database and not used for further purposes.  Unfortunately we cannot hold responsibility for third parties downloading, copying or sharing your content. Should you wish not to participate in the digital wall, please contact familyphotoalbum@amnesty.org.uk.

Will you contact me if my photo is used?

Once you have uploaded your photo via our website, we won’t contact you again to ask permission to display it as part of the UK's biggest family photo album. However we may get in touch if we need to ask you for more information, such as: a higher resolution version of your photo or permission to use your photo in our media, marketing or campaigning activities.

What will happen to my photo after the campaign?

We will display your photo in the album. It will also be added to an online digital version of the photo album which will stay up for 30 days.  Afterwards, we will ensure that your photo is removed from our database and is not used for any further purposes.

Who should I contact if I want my photo removed from the album?

If you wish to have your photo removed for the album, or wish to ask any more questions relating to the photo album campaign, please contact familyphotoalbum@amnesty.org.uk
