JOIN THE FIGHT AND HELP AFGHAN WOMEN AND GIRLS CHANGE THEIR FUTURES.
As we near the two-year anniversary of the Taliban takeover, the human rights of women and girls have been under increasing oppressive bans and restrictions. Women are prevented from dressing as they choose; banned from education beyond primary school; banned from public life; prohibited from working; and barred from moving freely. Taliban policies have been oppressing women and girls in almost all aspects of their lives.
Will you support the women and girls of Afghanistan? Thanks to your gift, our campaigners could continue to carry out research exposing the Taliban’s lies and put pressure on the world’s governments to act.
16-year-old Lolah* had dreams of being a doctor one day. But without education or training, she won’t be able to reach her dream. Neither are many other girls. They dreamed of equality, and, for a time, we could all picture that future for Afghanistan.
Lolah shared with us how “when the Taliban announced they were going to open the schools I felt like I was flying. (…) I was feeling that I was given a second chance and it was beautiful. But the Taliban broke their promise and within the first day ordered the schools to close for girls above year six and for them to wait for further instructions.”
Unsurprisingly, those instructions have still not come. The Taliban promised they would uphold the rights of women and girls. It’s all too clear they lied.
Amnesty International UK won’t stop fighting until women and girls are able to restore their freedom in Afghanistan. Donate today to support.
*We have changed Lolah’s name to protect her identity.
