The Chinese authorities want everyone to forget that they killed hundreds, if not thousands, of unarmed peaceful pro-democracy protesters in the Tiananmen Square crackdown in 1989. But Chow Hang-tung, like many others, refuses to forget.
For many years, the human rights lawyer and activist Chow Hang-tung has helped to organise a peaceful annual remembrance of the Tiananmen Square crackdown. In 2021, after she posted on social media to encourage people to light candles at home, Chow Hang-tung was arrested.
Chow asked for people to light a candle for peace. But she is now trapped in a cell in Hong Kong’s Tai-Lam Centre for women – a maximum security prison. She could face up to ten years in prison under Hong Kong’s draconian National Security Law.
Chow Hang-tung needs to be released immediately – this is an urgent call for your help. Will you start a monthly donation today?
