A Perspective on Capital Punishment: an expert’s view (12/04/2016)
Bognor Regis, Chichester & District Amnesty International are pleased to welcome Peter Hodgkinson OBE to discuss capital punishment.
Peter’s presentation will address the traditional debate as well as focussing on issues given too little attention, including capacity building, the needs of the families of victims and offenders, alternative sentencing, supporting local initiatives and engaging with those who support the death penalty.
Peter founded the Centre for Capital Punishment Studies at the University of Westminster in 1992, until his retirement in 2014. As Council of Europe Expert on the death penalty and as founding member of Her Majesty's Foreign Secretary's Death Penalty Advisory Panel, he has worked closely with a wide range of governments and NGOs. In H. M. Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2004, Peter was awarded the OBE for his work promoting human rights.
