conference
Thank you to all who contributed to our excellent West Suffolk College/Amnesty International BSE Human Rights conference, whether as speaker or conference participant. The Mayor, Cllr. Margaret Marks, spoke powerfully about what she has learned about prison. We heard about the effect of prison on prisoners' families, and explored how we might behave in particular circumstances in prison. We heard about the experiences of those in asylum detention, and what Amnesty and governments are doing on the issue. We heard about the horrific prison conditions, including torture, in Turkish prisons. And explored restorative justice, including as practised in Ireland centuries ago. A stimulating and informative day.
