You may be aware that the new Labour Government plans to carry through on a commitment given by the previous Conservative Government to re-open the Campsfield Immigration Detention Centre just north of Oxford (closed in 2018) – so in our Central England region. This is despite previous commitments to reduce the number of people in immigration detention and the dreadful track record that Campsfield had in terms of danger, misery and harm to detainees. As previously advised the Amnesty Central England Network’s Refugee and Asylum Seeker campaign group has  had the ok from Amnesty UK for the Network to join the coalition of organisations and groups campaigning to Keep Campsfield Closed - see https://keepcampsfieldclosed.uk/  Our friends in Oxford City Amnesty Group have been supporting the campaign for several years and we now have an opportunity to increase awareness and campaign activity, and to advocate more widely on the issue.
