The Network's Priority Campaign Areas
The Network has campaign groups meeting regularly (online) to plan and organise activity relating to the Network’s three priority campaign areas. Each campaign group looks to take action in these areas in support of relevant current Amnesty International campaigns, as well as organising education/awareness-raising activity (e.g. through informative webinars), MP advocacy (e.g. through email/letter exchanges and meetings), and involvement in on-the-ground campaigning activity (such as the Campsfield campaign). If you would like to join one of these groups to find out more and/or get involved, wherever you are located in the W, E or S Midlands, please contact the campaign area leads as follows, or respond to this message:
- Refugees/asylum seekers – contact Anne McFarlane (ammcf@btinternet.com)
- Oppressed peoples (currently working particularly on the Uyghurs, Palestinians and people in Kashmir) - contact Chris Manley (christopherjmanley@yahoo.co.uk)
- Antiracism - contact Gethin Davies (gethin.davies2021@gmail.com)
AMNESTY ACTIVIST-LED CAMPAIGNS IN OUR REGION
Human Rights in Kashmir
If you are specifically interested in getting involved in learning about and campaigning for human rights in Indian-administered Kashmir, please contact either Cherry Bird (the Country Coordinator for India; cherry.bird@amnesty.org.uk) or Ian Myson (ian.myson@amnesty.org.uk). As above the Network’s “Oppressed Peoples” campaign group has close links with this activist-led campaign.
Stopping abuse of the UN Security Council veto/UN Network
If you are interested in learning about and working to improve the UN’s human rights mechanisms and/or specifically campaigning to stop states obstructing the UN’s attempts to end mass atrocities, please contact Janet Phillips (janet.pphi@gmail.com). This campaign has grown out of an Oxford City Group initiative and is developing both a UK-wide and international supporter network.
