Lindy Hop Dance Fundraising

We organised a social dance in November to promote the local Amnesty group. It was a great opportunity to have fun, learn some dance steps, campaign for human rights and enjoy some great Turkish food. The event was themed around Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights "Everyone has the right to freedom of movement ... within the borders of each state". We collected signatures for a human rights activist who criticised the Tunisian president and has since been banned from travel and is at risk of years in prison (more detail https://www.amnesty.org/en/petition/free-tunisian-activist-chaima-issa/).

The event included a dance class for “Lindy Hop” a swing dance that started in the 1920s in the USA and spread around the world. We then had an opportunity for food followed by a return to the floor for some more freestyle dancing or the chance to try out steps learned in the class! It was an opportunity for a lot of fun, but also raising money and awareness for human rights around the world."
