Ever wondered what a local group does?
Our first Open Evening for the group was a great success everyone agreed. This was a chance for local people who had been curious about what we do as Amnesty members and particularly as a local group to meet us and find out more. After an introduction showing the foundation of Amnesty and its basis in human rights, Jackie talked about our continued work for individuals at risk including Eskinder Nega. There was also information about past and current campaigns, the power of the pen (and today the internet and text) and the opportunities for us all to stand up for justice and human rights.
During the evening over tea and cakes we talked to visitors, answered questions and invited everyone to sign cards and letters. The evening finished with a photo action for Eskinder.
