Next Meeting 8pm Tuesday 8th June, Friends Meeting House
Morocco CC will talk about Amnesty's new campaigns and their significance for our NA work
Vilyana Tsekova. will introduce Amnesty’s new campaigns, Stop Torture and My Body, My Rights and explain how important they are for our work on North Africa.
Amnesty has been fighting torture for over 50 years and campaigned hard for the creation of the UN Convention against Torture 30 years ago. Torturers are now international outlaws and 155 countries have signed up to the UN Convention. But many governments are betraying their responsibilities. Torture is a major concern in North Africa and one of the countries AIUK will be focussing on is Morocco,
In Algeria and Tunisia, rapists are evading punishment by marrying their teenage victims. In Morocco and Western Sahara, this is thankfully no longer the case. However, the law still fails to adequately protect survivors of sexual violence.
