Manchester Amnesty Weekly Action and News
Please do this action and make a difference
This week, the case brought by Asylum Aid seeking judicial review of the government’s plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda is before the high courts. When the hearing is over, the court will give its decision on this and previous actions brought by Care4Calais, Detention Action and the PCS union. Whatever the outcome of these court proceedings, we need to keep fighting and speaking out against the government’s cruel and inhumane plans, which include the intention to deport a heavily pregnant woman. This week’s action, which links to a Together with Refugees campaign, has been timed to coincide with the latest court hearings. We are asking you to make a postcard in the shape of an orange heart and send it to your MP with a message stating your opposition to the Rwanda scheme. Full instructions are on the pdf sent with this email.
TAKE ACTION
On Saturday 15th October, 3-8pm, Old Abbey Tap House, M15 6SY
An afternoon/evening of music, poetry, DJs, stalls, dance and food, to highlight the Wikileaks Revolution/Julian Assange campaign. Please see this link for more information.
There will be an Amnesty stall, and we would love to see you there.
Is there anybody who would be prepared to lead on arranging an Amnesty stall at the University of Manchester Volunteering and Social Justice Fair which takes place at the University on Friday, 25th October, 11-3pm? The purpose of the fair is to provide students with links informations about organisations with which organisations with which they might volunteer in some capacity. It you can lead on this, please let alison.wearden@gmail.com or hazelerrey@gmail.com know.
Acoustic Amnesty is going electric and having a party!
Friday, 18th November, Door time 6:00pm, Start time 7:30pm
Manchester 53two, Arch 19, Watson Street, M3 4LP
There will be many singers, bands, poets and there will be a DJ spinning dance tunes. 100% of ticket sales will go to good causes including Amnesty Manchester.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that if there are not enough ticket sales for charity then the event will not happen (refunds available of course). It’s not worth all the artists’ efforts in preparing and performing if there’s only 12 of us in the audience.
So get your tickets booked here or at the link below.

Thanks to all those (about 46 people) who came along and made our AmnestyManc Human Rights Walk on 8th October such a success. Special thanks to Steve Roman for leading the walk and teaching us all so much about the history of human rights in Manchester. And it was lovely that our friends from Women Asylum Seekers Together and Rethink Rebuild Syria were able to enjoy the walk and the sunshine with us.
