Amnesty International UK Urgent Action: UPDATE on UA 93/13: EL SALVADOR: 155.000 SIGNATURES COLLECTED, BUT BEATRIZ IS STILL IN NEED
Dear friends,
Faced by the continuing failure of the authorities to provide Beatriz with the treatment she so urgently needs, staff at the Citizens' Group for the Decriminalisation of Abortion (Agrupación Ciudadana por la Despenalización del Aborto) held a press conference on Thursday 23 May, followed by the public hand-over of the more than 155.000 signatures collected by AI Sections across the world.
The signatures from AI activists were handed in to the President's Office; the Supreme Court of Justice; and the National Legislative Assembly.
There are now 23 Amnesty Sections in 22 countries taking action on Beatriz's case, across Latin America, North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australasia - a really awe-inspring mobilisation!
We are asking all of you to keep taking action over the next week: the authorities have still not provided Beatriz with the treatment she needs and our NGO partners have asked us to continue with the pressure in the meantime - we know this is a big ask but we believe that we are having an impact!
If you have little time on your hands, simply visit the following blog page which I have created for Beatriz’s Twitter action and click on the ready-to-go tweets at the bottom: https://www2.amnesty.org.uk/blogs/urgent-action-network/time-running-out-tweet-now-beatriz
If you want to personalise your tweets, try to write something in support of last week’s action, and keep emphasising exactly how many people across the world have taken this action and will keep on campaigning for Beatriz! All tweets from now on should be sent to President Funes.
For example: @presidencia_sv Over 155.000 people across the world want you to #saveBeatriz: we are urging you to act now!
Please carry on with all the great work you are doing to keep pressure up on the authorities to finally take action on Beatriz's case!
Thanks for your continuing support,
Melody
