How to make the UN more effective
The next online Oxford Amnesty Local Group meeting is on Tuesday 15th November at 7:15pm. The topic for this online meeting is 'How to make the UN more effective'.
In March 2022 we reported that we were considering proposing a resolution to the upcoming AGM on reforming the UN Security Council. We decided it would be better to hold off putting a resolution forward until 2023, to allow more time to research the subject and prepare as strong a case as possible.
The meeting, led by member Janet Phillips, will be joined by Prof Renzo Pomi, Representative for Amnesty at the UN in New York. Janet will feed back on research into the limitations on reform imposed by the structure and rules of the UN as well as the possibilities for reform, which could help identify a credible campaign project on how to make the UN more effective for the protection of human rights. Prof Pomi will describe the work of the Amnesty consultative body at the UN and the challenges it faces.

Meetings are open to members and non-members. All are welcome to attend!
