Refugee Week
There will be no group meeting in June, however we are planning to attend some of the events during refugee week.
After two years as a digital festival, Refugee Week returns and will run from 20-26th June celebrating the contributions of refugees with a theme of ‘Healing’.
Asylum Welcome - Alternative Walking Tour Saturday 18th June - Asylum Welcome is hosting an alternative walking tour to which all are invited! The tour gives refugees and asylum seekers an opportunity to introduce and describe some of the core services, locations and community groups that are key for people seeking asylum and building new lives in Oxfordshire. Tours will take place between 12pm-2pm and 1pm-3pm. All tours will begin at Asylum Welcome (Unit 7, Newtec Place, Magdalen Rd, Cowley, Oxford OX4 1RE) and end with refreshments at Za’atar Bake (166 Cowley Rd, Cowley, Oxford OX4 1UE). If you would like to join, please let them know which of these tours you would like to join by emailing advocacy@asylum-welcome.org.
Bazaar at MCS Saturday 25th June - Asylum Welcome, in conjunction with Oxford's thriving network of Refugee Community Organisations will host an all-day bazaar in the grounds of Magdalen College School, from 11am-5pm. Community organisations including the Oxford North African Community, Oxford Sudanese Supplementary School, Syrian Sisters, Iraqi Women Art and War (IWAW) and Refugee Resource Women's Group will sell food and other goods, share art and music, and raise awareness about the valuable work they do in our community. This will be followed at 4pm by a panel chaired by BBC Political Correspondent Rob Watson. Entry is free but please bring cash for the market stalls.
