Perth Amnesty Group and Perth Minorities Association's Communal Iftar
Perth Amnesty Group, together with Perth Minorities Association, hosted a communal Iftar in The Gateway Centre in Perth on Tuesday 19th March 2024 with members of Perth’s Muslim Community.
Iftar is the name of the meal eaten by Muslims at sunset to break their fast during Ramadan. During the Iftar there were opportunities to hear about the work that Amnesty International does to stand up for humanity and human rights. This included an online presentation on the human rights catastrophe in Gaza by Garry Ettle, AIUK Country Coordinator for Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Following the Iftar, the intention is for both Groups to maintain contact and work together on areas where members of the Muslim community feel action needs to be taken to highlight human rights abuses, particularly in their country of origin.
