Human Rights in Hong Kong - an Evening without Chow Hang-tung & Jimmy Lai. A review
An Evening without Chow Hang-tung and Jimmy Lai - prisoners of conscience in Hong Kong
We held an event as part of Reading's International Festival “An Evening without Chow Hang-tung and Jimmy Lai - Human Rights in Hong Kong”. We were delighted to have a very knowledgeable panel, including Amnesty UK’s own Sacha Deshmukh. We were also very fortunate to have a former member of staff of the now closed AI Hong Kong (where Chow worked) and a social media officer for the now closed Apple Daily (which was Jimmy’s newspaper).
It was a very informative panel discussion and Q&A - at times, it was very emotional as Hong Kongers described the swift and devastating decline in human rights in their homeland.
We gathered more signatures for our political prisoners in Hong Kong petition- many thanks to other local groups who have contributed to this.
We were so pleased to be joined by members of the newly re-formed Reading University group. We look forward to future events together.
