February Diary
Wednesday, February 14th, 7 pm, at the Meeting House, Maidenhead Road. Our speaker is David Eastwood who will talk about: "Syria 2010 - Paradise Lost: a photographic journey through Syria before its destruction with some more recent reflections".
David will take a collection for Stratford Welcome Here (in support Stratford’s Syrian Refugee Resettlement programme) at the end of the evening. All welcome.
Saturday February 24th, 7.30 pm We are proud to support Howell Productions play ‘Nazanin’s Story’ at Stratford Artshouse. This important play, described as ‘political theatre at its best’ tells the true story, familiar to most Amnesty members, of the British-Iranian woman Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe who was taken by the Iranian government on spurious charges in April 2016 while on holiday with her parents and imprisoned. She was separated from her young daughter Gabriella who remains in Iran. Throughout November and December the campaign for Nazanin’s release, led by human rights groups, her family and friends culminated in Boris Johnson’s visit to Iran where, it is believed, he mediated on behalf of Nazanin. Despite raised hopes at Christmas Nazanin is still in prison, separated from her daughter and husband.
Nazanin’s case has been a special concern of Stratford’s Amnesty group who have supported both this production and her cause. We are especially privileged and pleased that Richard Ratcliffe, Nazanin’s husband, is planning to attend the Artshouse production and to offer a Q and A after the performance.
