Dialogue Society Sutton Picnic - 13 July 2024

Our Chair and Secretary attended a picnic organised by the Sutton Dialogue Society in the Shiraz Mirza Community Hall in New Malden, thanks to an invitation from new Amnesty member Muhammed. Families were mainly from the Turkish community in Sutton, who were extremely friendly and hospitable.

The event featured delicious Turkish food and an amusing take on the game of bingo. But it also provided an opportunity for us to talk about Sutton Amnesty and the work we do for human rights. The community were particularly interested in the story of our Turkish ex-POC Ilker Demir, and how we helped to get him free. Useful links were made, and we look forward to working with the Sutton Dialogue Society on future projects, such as providing much-needed clothing to the Gatwick Detainees Welfare Group.
