London Region Amnesty - 24 September Meeting Highlights
Our Chair, who is also the AIUK London Region Activism Representative, organised the first online London Region Amnesty meeting for quite a while on 24 September, which was attended by representatives from ten of the eleven local Amnesty groups.
All the participating groups gave a short account of the state of their group and the problems they face in recruiting younger members.
The new AIUK London Region WhatsApp group is proving popular, in that it is a convenient way for local groups to advertise any upcoming events they are holding.
Meetings will now be held online bimonthly on the fourth Wednesday, with the next one being 27 November. It was agreed that a AIUK London Region AGM will be held in late January or early February 2025.
Nationally, a new post of AIUK Local Group Administrator has been created and advertised - this after the Sutton Group’s resolution on more support for local groups being carried overwhelmingly at the 2024 AGM in June. Other resolutions passed affecting local activism are in the early stages of implementation.
In a follow-up to the meeting, our Chair met online with Abigail Loucks, the Student Network representative for London and the South East. Going forward, we hope that student Amnesty and local groups will start working more closely together on London initiatives.
