Prisoners of Conscience - 17 September 2024

A really interesting event our Chair attended for the very first time was a Prisoners of Conscience Bursary Awards Event, an annual conference gathering held in London. Prisoners of Conscience are a UK-based charity providing both financial and practical assistance to prisoners of conscience and human rights defenders, and were originally an offshoot of the main Amnesty movement.

It is a great opportunity to meet former prisoners of conscience from around the world that have been helped by the charity. Our Chair was lucky enough to meet and hear the brave stories from two Turkish women, Fatma Ozdemir (a lawyer) and Tulin Dag (a film-maker), both of whom had spent many years in prison for demonstrating as students, as well as others whose names can’t be revealed.

More information about Prisoners of Conscience and the excellent work they do can be found in their library of Annual Reports, which can be accessed here.

All in all, a charity well worth supporting!
