Sutton Amnesty at Carshalton EcoFair - 26 August 2024
Our Amnesty stall at the fair this year was well placed allowing customer access from two sides and situated between the Lib Dems and a busy CND bookstall. Anne provided a carnival feel to our stall with colourful bunting and Graham prepared excellent posters and information on the people we were campaigning for.
A good group of helpers were kept busy giving out information and encouraging the signing of letters and a petition. The helpers included John, Mark, Richard, Barbara, Lyndon, AnnaRita and Anne. Bev from Croydon Amnesty also joined us. We met several supporters of Amnesty and introduced ourselves to others. We learned and shared information with many.
Overall it was a successful day with:
- 40 letters signed for Egypt (Alaa Abdel Fattah),
- 32 letters to UAE, plus 13 on a petition for (Dr Mohammed Al-Roken),
- 41 letters signed for Iran (Toomaj Salehi)
- 19 letters Turkey (Saturday Mothers)
- 35 letters Russia (Maria Ponomarenko)
- 31 signatures for the Hong Kong petition (Jimmy Lai and Hang-tung Chow)
- There was one Will request and ten new people were added to our group Email list.
- We collected £30.50 in donations which just covered the £30 stand fee.
It was a very successful day!
