Write for Rights - 4 December 2023 Meeting Highlights

Write for Rights 2023

Our December meeting focused on our participation in Amnesty International's 2023 Write for Rights Campaign.

In aggregate we wrote almost 70 cards to the individuals covered. Write for Rights also looks back to those people included in last year's campaign. As we have reported before, one of these was Mohammed Baker (lawyer to Alaa Abdel Fattah), released during the year in Egypt.

Trinity Church Sutton, supporters of Amnesty International, also held their own Write for Rights event during December.

We also had our first 'Chair's Q&A'. Our Chair outlined some of the challenges facing Amnesty from an organisational perspective. As planned, members of the group took the opportunity to start shaping our programme for 2024 with requests for speakers about particular countries and themes. There was also some discussion about how we might campaign in future, the possibility of using Eventbrite and increased liaison with other groups. We enjoyed Christmas cakes (with thanks to Barbara and Anne).
