December 2012 Write for Rights
This year we took the annual Greetings Card Campaign out to the Swindon public on 8th December, with a stand at Swindon Central Library. We had a good response to the three cases that we chose to concentrate on:
- Gao Zhisheng - a human rights lawyer in China
- Maria Alekhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova - members of the Russian punk band, Pussy Riot
- Reggie Clemons - a 38 year old black man who has been on death row in the State of Missouri for 19 years
You can find out more about their cases and how to take action by following the links on the right.
On 15th December we held our group Greetings Cards and Write for Rights meeting, with many more cards and letters signed, including for our adopted Tunisian case, Manal Boualagi. Manal, a 26-year-old mother of two, was killed in Regueb, Tunisia on 9th January 2011, when security forces used lethal force following peaceful protests. Her mother is still seeking justice for her death.
