Hossein Ronaghi Maleki was arrested on 13 December 2009 after the disputed June 2009 presidential election. He is serving a 15-year prison sentence for charges including 'spreading propaganda against the system', and 'insulting the Supreme Leader'. He had an unfair trial and was denied access to a lawyer. He told the judge he was tortured, and was told that he 'deserved it'.
Hossein has been on several hunger strikes since his arrest in 2009, and has had several operations whilst in prison, including one to remove his kidney, and has been denied follow up medical care.
His parents have never stopped fighting for his release. His mother started her own hunger strike and inSeptember, his 63-year-old father was convicted in connection with all the work he has done to get his son out of prison.
Hossein has stopped taking his medication in protest at the way he has been treated in prison, the harassment of his parents and the authorities' refusal to grant him access to the medical care he needs.
Hossein and his family have suffered enough and it is time to get him home.
