The Children's Human Rights Network is an activist led group of over 7,500 - steered by a committee of up to 12 people.

The Network is run by activists all over the UK who aim to drive forward change on Children's Human Rights issues, in the UK and around the world. One third of committee places are reserved for under 18s as we believe there is so much young voices can contribute to the area of Children's Rights.

Being a part of the Children’s Human Rights Network is an incredible opportunity to work with the huge and very supportive structure of Amnesty UK which enables you to pursue action on causes that matter to you.

We are always looking to uplift and inspire other young voices for the Children’s Rights cause. Currently, we are hoping to find new members of our committee – we want to hear from a variety of voices championing children's right - young people, those with expertise in children’s rights, teachers - who are keen to take initiative and grow their skills as a campaigner.

What does the Children’s network do?

The Children’s Human Rights Network exists to lead Amnesty UK’s organising and campaign work on tackling human rights issues which disproportionately impact children.

Often, this will be in combination with Amnesty staff members and other activist structures. However, much of the time, the committee will work independently to design and deliver campaign strategies. committee members receive training and guidance in campaign design and campaign planning, however, a basic familiarity with campaigning and how it takes place is a useful background.

The Children’s Network creates and develops campaigns and materials to enable others to take impactful action on a range of Children’s Right campaigns.

We plan and strategise campaigns together as a committee, sometimes with the support of the community organiser or another member of Amnesty staff, but often just as a group, as we are an activist led group that sets our own direction.

We are currently working on our own committee-led campaign to ensure access by all children and young people to Human Rights Education in schools. Alongside this, we are also supporting the amnesty campaign to Scrap the Prevent duty because of its impact in undermining children’s rights.

We get up to lots of exciting things to make this happen – our work encompasses outreach and advocacy, social media and blogging, hosting and attending events and sharing the stories of children’s rights and activism.

What commitment will I need to make?

• Collaboration with others and the willingness to uphold an inclusive culture

• Attendance and contribution to a monthly committee meeting, usually on the last weekend of the month

• Contribution to planning actions, projects and events, including taking responsibility on key tasks outside of meetings. This will be no more than six hours a month.

• Work on the committee necessitates some travel across a portion of the UK. All travel for Committee Member work is reimbursed by Amnesty UK, but you will need to be commit to travel to meetings occasionally when needed
