Our Disabled People’s Human Rights Network is looking for a social media officer! You will have the opportunity to bring your own ideas to the table in a collaborative, non-hierarchical environment. Our group of activists works and learns together, fostering a supportive atmosphere for personal and professional growth. We can provide training on any and all of the bullet points below so if you have energy and enthusiasm but feel you don’t fit the description fully, please apply anyway! We have resources to help you to develop. As a self-organised group of disabled activists accessibility is our priority so please let us know how we can support you to be able to work with us. Send any questions, worries, accessibility needs, or issues with the form to Holly.Harrison-Mullane@amnesty.org.uk

Who We're Looking For:

  • Experience with graphic design tools.

  • Knowledge of social media platforms and content creation.

  • Enthusiasm for exploring innovative ways to grow and evolve our social media presence.

  • Passion for justice, liberation for disabled people, and human rights. A strong commitment to the social model of disability and the independent living movement.

  • An interest in current events and disability news globally, and a willingness to learn more.

  • Commitment to meet once a month online and in-person in London for our annual event (travel costs reimbursed). We are committed to making our events hybrid for accessibility whenever needed and our existing committee members are based all across the UK.

What We Offer You:

  • A supportive group of peers who are passionate about justice for disabled people and human rights and committed to working collaboratively.

  • Reimbursement of travel costs as needed for the role.

  • Opportunities to travel to events, conferences, and protests across the UK, allowing you to engage with the wider activist community.

  • Training opportunities to upskill, e.g. through Amnesty International UK.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Monitor social media trends and the latest in human rights issues to ensure content is relevant and impactful.

  • Stay updated on best practices in social media marketing and human rights advocacy.

  • Regularly draft and post engaging content on Amnesty Disabled People’s Human Rights Network’s social media feeds (Instagram and Bluesky) and edit basic videos for TikToks and Reels. This is a volunteer role so we fully understand that the time you spend on this might vary. This responsibility will be shared with other committee members.

  • Create content that includes, but is not limited to:

    • International days relating to disabled people and human rights

    • Current events and relevant news from the UK and worldwide

    • Actions from Amnesty International’s website (e.g., ongoing petitions to highlight on our socials)

    • “Behind the scenes” content

    • Campaign content

  • Collaborate with the wider team at in person meetings to create a social media concept for the following two months.

  • Co-manage day-to-day operations of all social media accounts:

    • Interact with our community to increase engagement, followers, and the quality of their experience. This could be by following other relevant accounts and sending likes and comments on trending posts

    • Track and manage our inboxes across all channels

    • We are hoping to find a team of people to do this so that each person only needs to commit to a few hours a week

  • Pitch ideas for collaboration posts with Amnesty International UK.

  • Support the wider team on an ad-hoc basis. E.g Working with other team members to support their activities at busier times.

Note: If you have a specific research field or interest, we are open to incorporating your ideas into our work. This is a volunteer-led network that encourages members to bring their ideas and perspectives to the table. For more information on what this looks like in practice, please get in touch.

Please apply using this form, or send a video no longer than 4 minutes about why you are a good fit for the role to holly.harrison-mullane@amnesty.org.uk. If you need to apply through a different method for access reasons, or if you’d prefer to answer the questions in an email please contact holly.harrison-mullane@amnesty.org.uk
