Amnesty International in Darfur, Sudan: Available for interview
Amnesty International has finally been granted access to the region where over a million people have been forced from their homes, more than 50,000 people have been killed, thousands of Women's rights's rightss rights's rights's rights's rights and girls have been raped, and hundreds of villages have been destroyed.
The Amnesty International delegation will visit Khartoum and the three Darfur state capitals, al-Jeneina, Nyala and al-Fasher. It will talk to victims of human rights violations in Darfur, and to lawyers and non-governmental organisations working in the area. The delegation will also meet with the Sudanese government and international community representatives to discuss their findings.
The delegation includes Irene Khan, Secretary General of Amnesty International; William Schulz, Director of Amnesty International USA; Samkelo Mokhine, Chair of Amnesty International South Africa; and research experts on Sudan.
