Amnesty International UK today launched the first in a new series of education materials designed specifically to be uplifting and help parents and carers homeschool.

Amnesty has a long record of working with teachers and schools, but this is the first time the human rights organisation has produced something specifically for parents and carers.

The timing of the release ties in with the new term that begins for the vast majority of pupils in England next week.

Each week while lockdown continues Amnesty will share three new activities on its website, through social media and direct mailings.

The first three are:

• Bird Bunting, which encourages children to explore the concept of freedom
• Here We Are, which looks at celebrating friends and family
• Human Rights Detective, which explores the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Rowena Seabrook, Amnesty’s Human Rights Education Manager, said:

“In these unusual times, many people are looking for creative, positive and easily accessible activities for children who are at home or still going into school.

“We have worked with schools on producing education materials for decades and we wanted to do something to help parents and carers. That is why we have launched Bite Size.”

Amnesty is asking any parents or carers whose friends and family do produce art work to email it to them at hre@amnesty.org.uk or share it using the hashtag #bitesizeHRE.
