Amnesty warns threat to scrap Human Rights Act 'part of a troubling pattern'
Responding to comments made at the Conservative Party Conference including a vow from the Home Secretary that a Conservative government would scrap the Human Rights Act, Tim Hancock, Campaigns Director at Amnesty UK said:
“The drum-beat of threats to scrap human rights protections is deeply worrying, and would seriously erode access to justice in this country.
“Under this government we have seen a troubling pattern of massive cuts to legal aid, a Lobbying Bill which could prevent groups speaking out and now threats to scrap the Human Rights Act.
“Together these measures stand to make the powerful less accountable and ordinary people more vulnerable.”
