Israel/OPT: attack on Al Ahli hospital in Gaza must be independently investigated

Responding to Rishi Sunak and James Cleverly’s comments today about yesterday’s  devastating attack on the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza City, Sacha Deshmukh, Amnesty International UK's Chief Executive, said:

“Rishi Sunak and James Cleverly are urging the world to wait for the ‘facts’ to become clear over the appalling attack on the Al Ahli hospital, but how is this supposed to happen unless a body like the International Criminal Court is given access to Gaza and allowed to properly and impartially investigate what happened?

"It’s woefully insufficient for anyone - UK politicians, the wider public, and of course the relatives of those killed and injured at Al Ahli - to have to rely only on claims and counterclaims from the Israeli military or Palestinian armed groups, or indeed any assessment made by the UK’s intelligence services.

“The Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary should be making it clear to the UK’s allies in Israel that an urgent, independent and impartial investigation by the International Criminal Court into the events at the Al Ahli hospital must be the route to justice over this terrible incident.”
