Kenny Richey Case: Disappointment at $10 million bail
Responding to the news that an Ohio judge in the United States has set Scotsman Kenny Richey's bail at $10 million, Amnesty International's Scottish Programme Director John Watson said:
"Obviously it is disappointing that bail has been set at a figure which Kenny Richey clearly will be unable to match.
“Having spent 20 years on death row for a crime he has always insisted he did not commit, it would have been some small recompense for Kenny to prepare for his retrial as a free man.
“Nevertheless the bail hearing was always in some ways a diversion from the real issue - Kenny Richey has for 20 years received shoddy justice. His retrial, when it comes, must present an opportunity to set the record straight in the fair and open trial he has always demanded."
