Northern Ireland: UN Palestine expert to deliver annual Amnesty lecture on genocide
Francesca Albanese will give Amnesty Northern Ireland’s annual lecture on the topic of Israeli genocide in the Occupied Palestinian Territory
‘Francesca Albanese is one of the most important voices of our time’ - Patrick Corrigan
Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, is set to deliver this year’s Amnesty International Northern Ireland annual lecture.
The distinguished UN expert will speak about the findings of her latest report, Genocide as Colonial Erasure, in which she examines the unfolding horrors in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian Territory.
Albanese has found that there are reasonable grounds to believe that Israel has committed acts of genocide in Gaza and has called for the international community to “intervene now to prevent new atrocities that will further scar human history”.
The online event, chaired by Amnesty Northern Ireland Director Patrick Corrigan, will be available to view free as part of the NI Human Rights Festival.
Patrick Corrigan said:
“Francesca Albanese is one of the most important voices of our time.
“Despite attacks on her personally and professionally, she has courageously used her role to shine a spotlight on the mass atrocities being perpetrated against Palestinian civilians.
“The world must urgently heed her calls for humanity to prevail. We are delighted to host her for this year’s Amnesty lecture to amplify her voice in speaking truth to power.”
The lecture will be held online on Tuesday 3 December (6pm). Free registration is available via this link.
