Amnesty’s main concerns around the Games itself concern the decision by London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to allow Dow Chemical to sponsor the £7 million wrap around the stadium. Dow is the 100 per cent owner of the Union Carbide Corporation, the company responsible for the Bhopal disaster in India that killed 25,000 people in 1984. Dow has refused to accept responsibility for the disaster – a stance defended by LOCOG.
