Scotland: Concerns continue over 'heavy-handed' raids by immigration officials
In response to the reports of two men detained by immigration officials and released by police in Glasgow after protests, Naomi McAuliffe, Programme Director for Scotland at Amnesty International UK, said:
“We are extremely concerned at the continued heavy-handed use of raids to remove people from their community and family, in distressing circumstances.
“The Home Office must not continue to expel people back to places where they could face torture and other persecution.
“The harmful impact of these raids is exacerbated by persistent Home Office failures to ensure that everyone entitled to be in the UK is able to secure that right, including access to necessary legal advice and assistance.
“What we are seeing over and over again is ministers and Home Office officials fundamentally disregard the dignity and welfare of people, their family and the local community.”
