Secretary General to visit Pakistan
The first city to be visited is Peshawar, where the Secretary General will go to refugee camps to meet Afghan victims of human rights abuses and engage in consultation with Afghan human rights groups. She will spend Human Rights Day, December 10th, in Peshawar as a gesture of solidarity with the victims of human rights abuses.
The second part of the mission will be in Islamabad, where Irene Khan will hold meetings with the UN, international agencies and non-governmental organizations, taking forward the perspectives gained from the first part of the mission in promoting a human rights agenda for Afghanistan. There will also be meetings with the Pakistani government, including President Musharraf, diplomatic representatives and with the Pakistan Human Rights Commission.
The final visit will be to Karachi, where the delegation will meet non-governmental organizations and representatives of civil society and engage in activities with the membership of Amnesty International Pakistan.
