Syria torture and killings allegations - spokespeople available for interview
Amnesty International is able to provide expert spokespeople to respond to a report alleging that 11,000 detainees have been tortured and killed while in custody in Syria.
Amnesty has carried out extensive research into torture in detention by the Syrian regime in the past, and these latest claims are consistent with our previous findings.
In a report in 2012 - ‘I wanted to die’: Syria’s torture survivors speak out (see http://goo.gl/V1cI7f) - Amnesty identified 31 methods of torture or other ill-treatment used by the Syrian security forces, army and pro-government groups against detainees.
Amnesty spokespeople can discuss what this week’s Geneva II peace conference should aim to achieve to address the issues of torture and detention in Syria, including access to the country for a Commission of Inquiry and other human rights monitors.
