UK: Government should urgently clarify its position regarding ICC's Palestine investigation
In response to the Minister of State Andrew Mitchell signalling a shift in the UK's position on the work of the International Criminal Court's Palestine investigation, Sacha Deshmukh, Amnesty International UK's Chief Executive, said:
“The UK government’s apparent shift in recognising the International Criminal Court's independence and jurisdiction regarding its ongoing Palestine investigation is a step forward.
“The Government should now urgently clarify this position and ensure the ICC’s investigation receives full support and all necessary resources. It should also call on the ICC's Chief Prosecutor to urgently expedite its ongoing investigation, examining alleged crimes by all parties and including the crime against humanity of apartheid against Palestinians in the investigation.
“Justice and accountability offer a critical step in any route out of this crisis for millions of Israelis and Palestinians.”
