UK: high-level panel discussion to be held on Israeli apartheid

Event comes after landmark Amnesty report earlier this year

Discussion will explore ways activists can help dismantle Israel’s racist system of oppression against Palestinians

Amnesty International will hold a special panel event in London on Tuesday 14 June to discuss Israel’s apartheid against Palestinians.

The event, being held at Amnesty UK’s east London HQ (details below), will bring together Agnès Callamard, Amnesty International’s Secretary General, Raji Sourani, Director of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, and Hagai El-Ad, Director of B’Tselem.

Earlier this year, Amnesty published a 280-page report on Israeli apartheid entitled ‘Israel’s Apartheid against Palestinians: Cruel System of Domination and Crime against Humanity’.

Amnesty’s report showed how Israel’s seizures of Palestinian land and property, its unlawful killings, forcible transfer of Palestinian people from their land, drastic movement restrictions, and the denial of nationality and citizenship to Palestinians were all components of a system amounting to apartheid under international law.

Similarly, both B’Tselem and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights have documented and strongly denounced Israeli apartheid.

Amnesty’s panel event - which will include opportunities for Q/As - will offer an opportunity to hear more about anti-apartheid work by the heads of these three organisations, with a particular emphasis on how activists and other organisations can join forces to help dismantle Israel’s racist system of oppression and domination against Palestinians.

The event will livestream here and is being held with the social media hashtag #EndIsraeliApartheid.

There will be an opportunity for one-to-one interviews with the panellists between 5.45-6.15pm.
