UK: Mozart Birthday Concert Fundraiser

There's a chance to raise money for Amnesty International and Young Concert Artists Trust (YCAT) while enjoying world-class musicians in a concert to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth at 3.15pm on Sunday (29 January) at Cadogan Hall, Chelsea.

The composer’s birthday has been celebrated with a concert of chamber music in aid of charity since 1984. Last year’s concert, at Queen Elizabeth Hall, raised over £2,735 for Amnesty International’s work in defending human rights around the world.

Says Amnesty International UK Media Director Mike Blakemore:

“We’re delighted to once again be sharing the proceeds of this wonderful event with the Young Concert Artists Trust. What better way could there be to mark the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth than by enjoying his music while raising money for two very good causes? Programme:

  • Llyr Williams (piano) with Leopold String Trio (Marianne Thirsen, violin; Lawrence Power, viola; Kate Gould, cello)

Piano Quartet in E flat major, K. 493

  • Belcea Quartet (Corinna Belcea, violin; Laura Samuel, violin; Krzysztof Chorzelski, viola; Alasdair Tait, cello) with Lawrence Power (viola)

    String Quintet in G minor, K. 516

  • Leopold String Trio Divertimento in E flat major, K. 563

YCAT was set up in 1984 to identify, nurture and promote outstanding young soloists and chamber musicians at the beginning of their professional careers.

The musicians taking part in this concert were represented by YCAT in their early years.
