UK: Reaction to report on conditions in detention centres for asylum seekers
Kate Allen, Amnesty International UK Director, said:
'We have been saying for years that in nearly all cases it is totally inappropriate to lock up often very vulnerable asylum-seekers. These are people who may have fled their home country for the UK specifically because they have suffered arbitrary detention or torture.
'Amnesty International wants to see an end to large-scale asylum-seeker detentions and the proper right to challenge detention granted to those held.'
