Amnesty International UK briefing for House of Commons Second Reading of Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill

Amnesty International UK has produced this briefing for House of Commons Second Reading on the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill.

The briefing sets out how the Bill constitutes a direct threat to the human rights of people subject to immigration control in the UK, fundamentally undermines the rule of law in the UK and this country's commitment to its international agreements, including by creating direct confrontation with the European Convention on Human Rights.

The Bill does all this in the service of creating an appearance that the Government's asylum policy introduced in December 2020 - of refusing to process the claims of people seeking asylum in the UK - can ever be made practical.
